Account & subscriptions
Why is there no free version?
Because the two normal ways a fitness app pays for itself are ads and selling your data, and we are not willing to do either. Charging every lifter a dollar a month means you are the customer instead of the product — nobody's training history is up for sale, and nothing in the app is designed to keep you scrolling. A dollar is deliberately the smallest price we could make work, and the Bronze Completeness Guarantee means it buys the whole tracker, not a sample of it.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by the App Store or Play Store, not inside Strength Almanac — but the app takes you there in one tap: Profile > Subscription > "Manage subscription in the App Store". If you would rather go yourself, or no longer have the app installed: on iPhone: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > find this app in the list > Cancel Subscription. On Android: open the Play Store app > tap your profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > find this app in the list > Cancel. Cancelling keeps your access through the end of the period you already paid for — you're never cut off mid-cycle.
I subscribed on web but don’t see it on my phone. What do I do?
Strength Almanac uses RevenueCat to sync your entitlement across web, iOS, and Android, tied to your Strength Almanac account (not the device). Make sure you're signed in with the same account on your phone, then use the 'Restore purchases' option — it re-checks your entitlement and unlocks your tier without charging you again.
How does the 14-day Gold trial work, and what happens on day 15?
Creating an account does not start a subscription and does not charge you. You start the trial by subscribing through the App Store or Google Play, and the store shows you the price and the date of your first charge before you confirm. Your first 14 days are free and include everything in Gold, so you can see the full app before deciding where you want to sit. When the trial ends, the Gold extras switch off and your first $1 Bronze charge is taken — unless you cancel by the deadline the store showed you, which costs you nothing. You are never silently moved up a tier, and reading your history and exporting it do not depend on paying us — we will not restrict that because a trial ended, you downgraded, or a subscription lapsed, and we will not delete your history solely because you stop paying. Bronze is the complete tracker, so the only thing day 15 changes is the Gold-only extras. The one case where logging new workouts pauses is if you have no active subscription at all — you cancelled it, or a renewal payment failed — and resubscribing switches logging straight back on with your history untouched.
What happens to my training history if I cancel?
It stays yours. Cancelling ends the renewal, not your access to what you have logged, and you keep the rest of the period you have already paid for. You can export your workouts, body measurements and exercise suggestions to CSV before or after cancelling, from Profile > Export Data. The export does not include session notes, programs, goals or achievements; email [email protected] and we will send a copy of what it leaves out. Inactivity alone does not clear your profile or delete your training history — a lapsed account that sits unopened keeps its name, its settings and every logged set, and signing back in and resubscribing picks up where you left off. The only thing that removes your training history is you deleting your account.
Data & privacy
Is my data safe? Will I lose my workouts?
Your workout history is yours and we keep it. Strength Almanac never sells your data or shows you ads — the whole reason we charge a small fee is so we don't have to. The only thing that erases your training history is you deleting your account. Inactivity alone does not change your account: a profile that sits unopened keeps its name, email, bio and gym, and nothing in your logged training is deleted for not opening the app.
How do I see exactly how my data is handled?
Read the full Privacy Policy any time from Profile > Strength Almanac > Privacy Policy.
Can I export my data — and can I bring data in?
Both, and both are included in Bronze. In Profile, scroll to Export Data and tap Export Workouts, Export Measurements or Export Suggestions to download a CSV of your workouts, body measurements and exercise suggestions. Just below it, Import takes a CSV back in — one of our own exports, or a file laid out exactly like one (the header row is how it recognises the file; a spreadsheet with its own column names is refused) — checks every row before it writes anything, and tells you what it found rather than half-importing a bad file. Your data being genuinely portable is the point: it is yours, at the floor tier, in both directions.
I keep my log in another app or a notebook. Can I bring it in?
Yes. In Profile, tap Import a sheet you filled in. The guide gives you our AI instructions and a blank sheet in our format; share the instructions to the AI chat you already use, give it your old log, and let it fill the sheet in. Then pick the finished CSV file. Your old log goes to whichever AI you choose, which is between you and that service — we never see it until you pick the finished file, and we never send it to an AI ourselves. A sheet is accepted only if its first line is exactly our header. You see what will be added before anything is written, a workout with a problem is skipped and listed rather than failing the whole file, and every import can be undone.
How do I delete my account?
In Profile, scroll to the Danger zone and tap Delete my account. You'll confirm your password, then review what happens before it's final. If you change your mind, you can restore your account by signing back in within 7 days. Three kinds of record survive the deletion, because you should hear it from us rather than discover it. Moderation records: if another member has reported your account for abuse, harassment, spam, or impersonation, the reason, what was written and the outcome are kept, and so is a record of any action a moderator took on your account, each with an internal account identifier so we can recognise repeat reports. Evidence of the subscription terms you agreed to, kept for a limited period. And purchase records, kept for seven years and then deleted; RevenueCat, which processes the purchases, also keeps its own record under the same identifier. None of these holds your workouts or body measurements. Everything else goes. If you turned on Apple Health, the workouts already saved there are in your Health app, not with us, so deleting your account does not remove them — delete them in the Health app.
Can I bring my history over from Strong or Hevy?
Yes, on the web. Sign in to Strength Almanac in a browser, open Profile, and choose Import from Strong or Hevy, then pick the export file from that app. The iPhone app does not offer this one. You see what will be added before anything is, weights keep the unit they were exported in, a workout that cannot be read is left out and listed, and picking the same file again adds nothing. Every import can be undone; achievements it earned stay.
Getting started
How do I log a workout?
Open the Workout tab and start a session. Tap a set to enter weight and reps — Strength Almanac tracks your sets, rest timers, and personal records automatically as you go.
Can I use Siri or Shortcuts to open Strength Almanac?
Yes, on an iPhone with iOS 16 or later. Say "Start a workout in Strength Almanac" to open the Train tab, or "Show my PRs in Strength Almanac" to open your personal records. Both also appear in the Shortcuts app and in Spotlight, and you can give one to the Action button on an iPhone that has one. A shortcut only opens the app on that screen: it does not start a session or log anything, and it needs you to be signed in. If you are signed out, or in the middle of signing in or setting up, the app simply opens as usual.
How do I follow a program?
Go to the Programs tab to browse and start a structured program. Once started, your next workout is pre-filled with that program's prescribed exercises, sets, and reps.
Can I edit a program after I’ve started it?
Yes. Open the program from the Programs tab and use the edit option to change days, exercises, sets, or reps. Edits apply going forward only — your logged history and past PRs are never altered by an edit.
What is Coach Mode, and which tier do I need for it?
Coach Mode (Profile > Coaching) works in two directions. Being coached — letting someone you trust see your training and suggest changes — is included from Silver. Coaching other lifters yourself is a Gold feature, for up to 3 lifters. Both directions are opt-in on both sides: nobody can attach themselves to your training without you accepting, a coach only ever suggests (they never silently rewrite your logged sets), and you can end the relationship at any time from the same screen.
What happens if I withdraw a coaching agreement?
Before you coach or are coached, you agree to a short set of terms. If you later withdraw that agreement, the relationship ends and the coach loses access — but we keep the record that you agreed, which version you agreed to, and when you agreed and withdrew. It holds none of your training data, and we keep it so what was agreed can be shown if a coaching relationship is ever disputed. Withdrawing is not the same as deleting your account: if you delete your account, that record goes with everything else.
How do personal records (PRs) work?
Strength Almanac automatically detects when a logged set beats your previous best for that exercise and celebrates it in-app. You can review your full PR history in the Analytics tab.
What does “Suggest my next weight” do?
It is an optional rule you set for one exercise: open the cog on that exercise during a workout, find Progression, and switch on Suggest my next weight. You pick the rule — add a set amount each time, or work through a rep range and add weight when you reach the top. Next time you do that exercise, the weight field starts at the number your rule works out from your recent sessions, with one line saying why. It is your own rule, applied the same way every time. Type over any suggestion, or tap Use last to go back to last session’s weight; nothing is saved until you log the set. It is off until you switch it on, switching it off keeps your settings, and if your history cannot be read you simply get no suggestion and logging works as usual.
What’s the plate calculator?
During a workout, the plate calculator shows exactly which plates to load on each end of the bar for your target weight. It follows your unit preference and says which one it is used — the per-side line reads "Per side (lbs)" or "Per side (kg)" — because the plate colours are the same in both systems and a red plate is 45 lb in one and 20 kg in the other. Above 2000 it stops drawing plates and tells you so instead: no real bar takes that, and a screen full of tiny discs is not a useful answer. It's available on every tier, including Bronze.
Can I suggest my own custom exercise for the shared library?
Yes. If you created a custom exercise, you can suggest it as a variation of an exercise already in the shared library. Open the exercise picker, tap the information icon next to your custom exercise, then tap Suggest for the library. A person reviews every suggestion, and nothing is added automatically. If it is approved, it is published to the shared library afterwards; if it is not added, the exercise shows Not added, with the reviewer's note when they leave one. Your own custom exercise and everything you have logged stay exactly as they are either way. Suggesting needs a connection, and you can have up to 5 suggestions waiting for review at a time.
Can I rate a program?
Yes, once you have trained it. Copy a program from the catalog into your own programs, complete workouts from it on 6 different days, then open your copy and tap Rate. You give it 1 to 5 stars. There is no written review, and you can change or remove your rating later. Other lifters see only the total: the number of ratings, and once a program has 5 ratings, the average out of 5. Nobody sees who gave which rating.
Troubleshooting
Does Strength Almanac work offline?
Right now Strength Almanac needs an internet connection to save your workouts — automatic offline logging is in active development and coming in an upcoming update. On a weak or spotty signal it usually still works, since each set saves as soon as the connection lets it through. But with no signal at all (a dead-zone basement, for example), a set you log may fail to save and isn't stored to send later. If you're training somewhere with no reception, it's safest to note your sets and re-enter them once you're back online. We're building offline logging with automatic sync so this just works soon.
I never got my confirmation email, or I can’t log in — what do I do?
First check your spam folder for our confirmation email. If it's missing, use 'Forgot password' on the login screen to trigger a fresh email — that also resolves most login issues tied to an unconfirmed address. Still stuck? Send us feedback below and we'll help directly.
Why did my rest timer not notify me when the app was in the background?
The Rest complete notification needs permission to send notifications. The first time a rest timer starts, your phone asks; if you said no, the countdown inside the app still works but nothing arrives in the background. Turn notifications on for Strength Almanac in your phone's Settings, then close and reopen the app. If your Rest timer sound in Profile is Haptic only or Off, the notification arrives silently. The web version shows the countdown only.
